Media Release: 6/6/2011

METCASH’S LUCKY 7, BLOCKBUSTER AND VIDEO EZY TEAM UP FOR INNOVATIVE TRIAL

The Campbells Wholesale division of national grocery and liquor wholesale distributor and marketer, Metcash Limited, today announced a three month trial is now underway in selected Blockbuster and Video Ezy stores for the installation of Lucky 7 convenience stores.

The Lucky 7 concept is store within a store, it will be owned and operated by the Video store franchisee. The Lucky 7 concept stores will  range in size from 25 to 50 square metres and stock more than 500  different product lines covering staple items like newspapers, bread, milk and snack foods. The three month trial could lead to the integration of the Lucky 7 convenience concept stores in the more than 650 Blockbuster and Video Ezy outlets across Australia.

Campbells now supplies the Lucky 7 branding, products and supply system for 350 convenience stores across Australia. Mr Peter Dubbelman, Chief Executive Officer of Campbells Wholesale, said “The trial is a very important development for Lucky 7, as we can generate many more distribution points across Australia, while Video Ezy and Blockbuster expands and improves its product and service offering with us. “We are very confident that the ‘store in store’ concept is compelling for the consumer as it heightens the convenience of a one stop shop for grocery items, DVD’s and electronic  games”, he added. Campbells’ Lucky 7 is now positioned as the ‘champion of the independent convenience store retailer’, similar to the marketing of Metcash’s IGAD as the champion of the independent supermarket retailer.

Lucky 7 offers independent convenience store operators improved and preferred trading terms with direct suppliers and a number of added value services, including wider product ranges, consulting services and strong merchandise support, with a formatted offer and designated promotional programs. Managing director of Franchise Entertainment Group (FEG), which owns Video Ezy & Blockbuster Australia, , Mr Paul Uniacke, said “We are excited about the ability of Lucky 7 to broaden the appeal of our network of more than 650 outlets, where families can take care of all of their needs for the evening with one retail stop.

Video Ezy and Blockbuster are much loved Australian brands and we see this alliance with Campbell’s Lucky 7 as a fantastic opportunity for our franchisees and customers. “We are confident that the trial will be a great success and we can roll out the Lucky 7 concept stores in the majority of our outlets across both city and regional areas. This is yet another way that FEG is delivering on its stated 2020 business strategy of making home rental stores relevant”, he concluded.
